Vintage luxury style fit-out for Fade Empire Barber Shop
Fade Empire is a premium barber venue located within Stockland Merrylands shopping centre in Sydney’s south-west.
The vision for this space was to create an atmosphere that blends rustic charm with an industrial edge, offering clients a memorable experience beyond just a haircut. Working with Stockland’s retail management team, Regiment Workshop meticulously executed this vision, delivering a fit-out that is both visually striking and seamlessly practical.
A fusion of textures and character
Upon entering Fade Empire Merrylands, clients are immediately immersed in a rich tapestry of textures and design elements. The walls are a standout feature, clad in timber planks laid in a captivating herringbone pattern. This creates an immediate sense of warmth and character. The rustic backdrop is contrasted with robust black metal frameworks and dark, industrial-style finishes, adding a sophisticated yet gritty aesthetic on top.
Key Features
Custom barber stations
Large, rectangular mirrors are framed by the signature timber wall, illuminated by spherical sconces that cast a soft glow. Integrated shelving on either side of the mirrors provides practical storage for products, keeping the workspace tidy and efficient.
Unique product displays
Recessed shelving units are integrated seamlessly into the timber walls, perfect for showcasing Fade Empire’s grooming products. A particularly distinctive feature is the use of re-purposed timber barrels – these had been cut in our Bankstown factory and mounted to the wall.
Inviting waiting area
Beyond the barber chairs, a dedicated waiting area exudes comfort and style. Ornate, deep-red leather armchairs and a matching sofa with gold detailing evoke a sense of vintage luxury. Large, richly patterned red rugs adorn the back wall, adding opulent texture.
Industrial chic lighting
Regiment Workshop’s integrated lighting service played a crucial role in defining the atmosphere. A combination of industrial pendant lights with exposed Edison bulbs, strategically placed track lighting, and embedded spotlights ensure optimal illumination. Super important when Fade Empire’s barbers are concentrating on grooming the perfect style!
Overhead canvas
Adding another layer of uniqueness to the fit-out, the ceiling features large draped canvas sections with printed text. These contribute to the shop’s distinctive, old-world artisan style.
Smart storage solutions
Throughout the space, Regiment Workshop incorporated clever storage solutions, from open shelving units crafted from timber and metal, to more discrete storage. These fit-out elements ensure a clutter-free environment for barbers to perform at their best.

Our project team managed every aspect of the fit-out, from the custom joinery and intricate wall installations to the strategic lighting and unique display fixtures.
Throughout the shopfitting journey, we ensured that all stakeholders, including Stockland Merrylands’ retail design manager and tenancy manager, were updated in a timely manner.
