About the client
Barberians offers classic barbershop service in a charismatic atmosphere. Seated in vintage chairs, customers enjoy premium grooming by passionate young barbers. Treatments include men’s haircuts, hot towel shaves and clean beard trims.
Relocation to Level 3 Broadway Shopping Centre
This project is the second collaboration between Regiment Workshop and Barberians at Broadway Shopping Centre. The team fitted out the client’s original Level 2 premises in 2021. To facilitate business expansion, Barberians re-engaged Regiment Workshop to fitout a larger space.
In 2026, Barberians relocated from Level 2 to Level 3. The whole process required meticulous site coordination and structural planning.
Scandinavian ceiling feature
Suspended from the ceiling and seemingly floating above the haircut stations, the hero feature of the barbershop is the Viking Longboat. This permanent installation pays homage to Scandinavian culture. The longboat was a key mode of transport used by the original Viking “Barberians”.
The timber oars and paddles were fabricated inside Regiment Workshop’s factory in Bankstown. The longboat works alongside a layered lighting design to create an atmospheric environment. The interior design integrates pendant lamps and wall sconces to create a medieval look. Hidden LED strip profiling and recessed downlights illuminate the general space.
A raw, textured aesthetic
The shopfitting design uses a palette of rugged and textured materials. The construction features exposed red brickwork, concrete benchtops and metal mesh dividers. These enhance the impressions of rawness and masculinity that one develops right from knowing the “Barberians” store name.
Metal fabrication was central to the build. Regiment Workshop integrated steel frameworks, industrial pipe detailing along brick walls, and heavy-duty shelving brackets. Hair products sit on retail displays that look formidable, much like structures in Viking lore.
Bespoke joinery and functional workspace
The joinery balances commercial ergonomics with a charismatic atmosphere. In the centre of Barberians Broadway, a timber-built seating island is clad in leather for customer comfort. Barrel-style counters deliver a grounded first impression in the front-of-house area.
For barber workstation zones, the extensive concrete bench provides a durable surface.
